Easton Area hasn't had much luck against Nazareth Area recently, but that could start to change on Monday. The Rovers will venture away from home to challenge the Blue Eagles at 4:00 p.m. Easton Area is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.6 runs per game this season.
Phillipsburg hit Easton Area with a four-run fourth inning on Friday, which goes a long way in explaining the final result. The Rovers took a 9-6 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Stateliners.
Chase Shollenberger was cooking despite his team's loss, going 2-for-3 with one triple, one stolen base, and two RBI. That triple was his first of the season. Another player making a difference was Kurtis Crossman, who went 2-for-4 with two runs, two doubles, and one RBI.
Meanwhile, Nazareth Area got the win against Pocono Mountain East on Friday by a conclusive 12-3. Considering the Blue Eagles have won eight contests by more than six runs this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.
Zak Novak tossed a big game, pitching six innings while giving up three earned runs off four hits.
At the plate, Matt Daems was excellent, going 2-for-4 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI. Ethan Strawn was another key player, going 1-for-3 with two stolen bases and two runs.
Nazareth Area is on a roll lately: they've won eight of their last nine matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 14-5 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 7.4 runs over those games. As for Easton Area, their loss dropped their record down to 10-8.
Easton Area couldn't quite finish off Nazareth Area in their previous matchup back in April and fell 2-0. Can the Rovers avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
