Basketball Game Preview: Groves Falcons vs. Bloomfield Hills Black Hawks

The Groves Falcons will head out on the road to take on the Bloomfield Hills Black Hawks at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Groves will be strutting in after a victory while Bloomfield Hills will be coming in after a defeat.

On Tuesday, Groves needed a bit of extra time to put away Seaholm. They walked away with a 69-60 win over the Maples. The Falcons' offense stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most points they've scored all season.

Harlem Simpson was her usual excellent self, dropping a double-double on 31 points and 15 rebounds. The matchup was her fourth in a row with at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Sophie Schwanik, who went 5 of 9 on her way to 13 points and three blocks.

Meanwhile, Bloomfield Hills was within striking distance but couldn't close the gap on Tuesday as they fell 49-45 to Troy.

Groves will have to contain Briana Young as she made an impact in Bloomfield Hills' last game. She dropped a double-double on 20 points and 12 boards. That was a full 44.4% of Bloomfield Hills' points, marking the third time in a row she's posted more than a third of the team's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Evia Barbu, who scored ten points and five rebounds.

Groves' victory ended a five-game drought at home and bumped them up to 3-9. As for Bloomfield Hills, they have been struggling recently as they've lost four of their last five games, which put a noticeable dent in their 3-7 record this season.

Groves didn't have too much breathing room in their contest against Bloomfield Hills when the teams last played back in February of 2024, but they still walked away with a 61-55 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for Groves since the squad won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
