Baseball Recap: Archbishop Williams Comes Up Short

Archbishop Williams extended their losing streak to four on Monday, dropping them down to 5-10-1. They came up short against the St. Mary's Spartans, falling 7-1. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Spartans this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 5-0 back in April.

As for St. Mary's, the victory (which was their tenth in a row) raised their record to 10-1. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.3 runs on average over those games.

For St. Mary's part, they got a great performance from Jayson Avery as he struck out seven batters over five innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits. Avery has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than one earned run any time he's pitched this season.

On the hitting side, Rowan Merryman was incredible, firing off two home runs, five RBI, and three runs while going 2-for-4. Those home runs were his first of the season. Rolky Brea-Arias was another key player, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with two stolen bases and two runs.

Coming up, Archbishop Williams will head out to challenge Arlington Catholic at 3:30 p.m. on Wednesday. As for St. Mary's, they will look to defend their home field on Tuesday against Bishop Stang at 4:00 p.m.
