Basketball Recap: Plainfield East Comes Up Short

Plainfield East was not able to break out of their rough patch on Tuesday as the team picked up their third straight defeat. They were outmatched by the Plainfield South Cougars and fell 73-46. The Bengals were not able to make up for their loss to the Cougars from their previous meeting back in February.

Despite the defeat, Plainfield East saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Emma Rodgers posted 11 points and five rebounds. What's more, Rodgers also racked up two assists, the most she's had since back in November of 2023. Another player making a difference was Khloe Oglesby, who put up six points and ten rebounds.

Leading Plainfield South to victory were Layla Lesure and La'Niya Willis. Lesure dropped a double-double on 11 points and 19 boards, while Willis went 8 of 18 on her way to 20 points and four steals. The match was Willis' fourth in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Zahira Edwards, who went 6 of 13 on her way to 15 points.

Plainfield East's loss dropped their record down to 1-8. As for Plainfield South, the win (which was their fourth in a row) raised their record to 4-3.

Plainfield East will face off against Joliet West at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday. Plainfield East is facing Joliet West at the right time seeing as Joliet West is stuck on a seven-game losing streak. As for Plainfield South, a feisty cat fight will be fought when the Plainfield South Cougars duke it out with the Plainfield Central Wildcats at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday.
