Recap: Vela Sabercats vs. McAllen Bulldogs
The Vela Sabercats stacked a 14th blowout win onto their ever-increasing hoard on Tuesday. They blew past McAllen 54-30. Winning may never get old, but Vela sure is getting used to it with their fifth in a row.
Vela's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Janai Coleman, who dropped a double-double on 16 points and 11 rebounds. Coleman hasn't dropped below 15 points for five straight games. The team also got some help courtesy of Gg Betancourt, who scored 14 points along with five assists.
Despite the defeat, McAllen had strong showings from Lola Mallard, who scored 13 points along with seven rebounds, and Dariana Luna, who scored two points along with eight rebounds and two steals. Luna has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last six times she's played.
Vela has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won 21 of their last 23 matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 28-5 record this season. As for McAllen, their loss dropped their record down to 18-17.
Vela will head out on the road to face off against Pioneer at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Pioneer is on a eight-game streak of home wins, Vela a 23-game streak of away wins (dating back to last season)-- so someone will have to leave a streak behind on the court. McAllen will take on Sharyland at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Hopefully McAllen focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 17 on Tuesday.
