Basketball Recap: Ellwood City Takes a Loss

Ellwood City lost against Aliquippa back in January and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Friday. The Ellwood City Wolverine took a hard 70-53 fall against the Aliquippa Quips. While losing is never fun, the Wolverine can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Pennsylvania basketball rankings (they are ranked 395th, while the Quips are ranked 88th).

Despite the loss, Ellwood City still got an impressive performance from Aaron Lake, who almost dropped a double-double on 15 points and nine boards. Lake is crushing it when it comes to rebounds: he's pulled down at least eight every time he's taken the court this season. Adrian Alvarez also deserves some recognition as he grabbed his first steal of the season.

Ellwood City dropped their record down to 13-9 with the loss, which was their third straight on the road. As for Aliquippa, they are on a roll lately: they've won 11 of their last 13 matches, which provided a nice bump to their 15-3 record this season.

Ellwood City does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Aliquippa, they won't have much time to rest: their next game is against Central Catholic at 6:00 p.m. on Saturday. Aliquippa knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with 55 points or more in their past nine contests -- so hopefully Central Catholic likes a good challenge.
