Basketball Recap: Word of God Academy Starts Season with Win Against Marshall Christian Academy

Word of God Academy took care of business in their home opener (and then some) on Monday. They claimed a resounding 62-26 victory over the Marshall Christian Academy Guardians. The Force not only won on Monday, but they posted their biggest win since December 10, 2024 (when they won 65-28).

Zyere Cartwright was nothing short of spectacular: he shot 40% from the field on his way to 21 points and four steals. Another player making a difference was Taj Bell, who posted 11 points and six rebounds.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Word of God Academy and Mount Olive Christian will face off at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday without much rest, having both just played. The contest will give the Force their first taste of in-conference action this season. As for Marshall Christian Academy, they will have a little extra prep time after the defeat as they won't be playing again for a while. They'll take on Shreveport HomeSchool Sports at 7:00 p.m. on February 16, 2026.
