Baseball Game Preview: Purnell Swett Rams vs. Cape Fear Colts

The Purnell Swett Rams are taking a road trip to take on the Cape Fear Colts at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Both come into the game bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

Purnell Swett is headed into the matchup having just posted their closest win since April 24, 2024 on Thursday. They narrowly escaped with a victory as the squad sidled past North Brunswick 8-6.

Camden Hunt and Joseden Oxendine did most of the damage at the plate: Hunt scored two runs while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances, while Oxendine scored a run while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances. Chandon Sanderson also deserves some recognition as he snagged his first stolen base of the season.

Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Cape Fear). They blew past Pine Forest 12-1 on Thursday. The win continues a trend for the Colts in their matchups with the Trojans: they've now won three in a row.

Evan Bunce was incredible, going 2-for-3 with three RBI, two runs, and one triple. That's the most RBI he has posted since back in April of 2024. Another player making a difference was Chris Serbio, who scored two runs while getting on base in two of his three plate appearances.

Purnell Swett picked up their first home victory, bumping their record up to 2-3. As for Cape Fear, their record now sits at an identical 2-3.

Purnell Swett suffered a grim 7-0 defeat to Cape Fear in their previous matchup back in May of 2024. Can Purnell Swett avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
