Softball Recap: Niskayuna Comes Up Short

Niskayuna was the 13-12 winner over Columbia when they last played one another back in May of 2024, but their luck changed this time around. The Silver Warriors took a 4-1 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Blue Devils on Thursday.

Ella Rodgers was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: she tossed 5.1 innings while giving up just two earned (and two unearned) runs off four hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than one walk any time she's pitched this season.

Niskayuna now has a losing record of 5-6. As for Columbia, the win got them back to even at 7-7.

Niskayuna and Columbia should be looking forward to their upcoming games as both have a sizable advantage in the MaxPreps New York Rankings. The Silver Warriors (ranked 63rd) will meet Mohonasen (ranked 408th) at 4:15 p.m. on Thursday. Meanwhile, Columbia will challenge Albany at 4:15 p.m. on Wednesday with a big rank advantage (48 vs. 324). The timing is sure in the Blue Devils' favor as the squad sits on three straight wins at home while the Falcons have been banged up by four consecutive losses on the road.
