Football Game Preview: Mountain View Mavericks vs. Highland Rams

The Mountain View Mavericks will take on the Highland Rams at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Mountain View is coming into the contest hot, having won their last four games.

Mountain View's defense heads into the game hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Friday. They really took it to Meridian for the full four quarters, racking up a 41-0 win. The Mavericks pushed the score to 34-0 by the end of the third, a deficit the Warriors had no chance of recovering from.

Henry Nelson had another great game (as he tends to do), throwing for 248 yards and five touchdowns while completing 89.5% of his passes. Mountain View is undefeated when Nelson posts three or more passing touchdowns, but 2-3 otherwise. 103 of Nelson's passing yards were hauled in by Denton Wilson, who also brought in two receiving touchdowns.

Mountain View's defense didn't let the opposing QB, get away unscathed either: they got into the backfield for six sacks. Leading the way was Mutua with two. He also set a new season-high mark in total tackles with seven.

Meanwhile, Highland faced Madison in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Friday. The Rams took a 28-17 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Bobcats.

Mountain View's record now sits at 6-3. As for Highland, their loss dropped their record down to an identical 6-3.

Mountain View didn't have too much breathing room in their matchup against Highland when the teams last played back in November of 2022, but they still walked away with a 30-24 victory.
