Preview: Holly Wildcats vs. Primero Bulldogs
Holly has enjoyed the comforts of home their last three games, but now they'll head out on the road. They will take on the Primero Bulldogs at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. Holly has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last three games.
Holly posted their biggest win yet this season on Saturday. They blew past Crowley County 42-18. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest victory Holly has posted against Crowley County since January 31, 2020.
Holly's success was spearheaded by the efforts of Josie Kissell, who scored nine points along with nine rebounds and six steals, and Averee Davis, who scored 18 points along with eight rebounds and two steals. Davis hasn't dropped below two steals for four straight games. Another player making a difference was Anayi Cerros, who scored six points along with ten rebounds and four steals.
Meanwhile, Primero scored the most points they've had all season to find success on Saturday. They simply couldn't be stopped as they easily beat Walsh 58-25 at home. The win was just what Primero needed coming off of a 60-37 loss in their prior contest.
Isabela Maldonado and Aimee Mincic were among the main playmakers for Primero as the former scored 16 points along with six rebounds and two steals and the latter scored 16 points along with five rebounds and five steals. That's the first time this season that Mincic scored 15 or more points. The team also got some help courtesy of Jaleysia Atkins, who scored 11 points.
Holly's record is now 5-6. Primero's record now sits at 5-6.
This contest is one where the number of possessions is likely to be a big factor: Holly have been smashing the glass this season, having only averaged 28.5 rebounds per game. It's a different story for Primero, though, as they've been averaging only 28 rebounds per game. Given these competing strengths, it'll be interesting to see how their clash plays out.
Everything came up roses for Holly against Primero in their previous matchup back in January of 2023 as the team secured a 71-18 win. With Holly ahead 42-9 at the half, the contest was all but over already.
