Shadow Mountain was not able to break out of their rough patch  on Wednesday as the team picked up their fourth straight  loss. They were a single  set away from ending the streak, but they lost  a   3-2 heartbreaker at the hands of the Goldwater Bulldogs. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Matadors of the  3-1 defeat they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture  back in October of 2024.
 Shadow Mountain wouldn't go down easily and took Goldwater into a fifth set  but they suffered a heartbreaking three-point loss. The match finished with set scores of 25-23, 25-17, 20-25, 20-25,  15-12.

 Goldwater's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was   Miley Zapata, who  had 22  digs and two  aces. Those  22  digs gave  Zapata a new career-high.  Finley Biber was another key player,  getting five  digs and five  aces.
Shadow Mountain's loss dropped their record down to 9-14. As for Goldwater, their victory bumped their record up to 13-8.
The teams didn't have to wait long for a rematch: Shadow Mountain beat the Bulldogs by a score of  3-0 on Thursday.
