Volleyball Recap: Shadow Mountain Takes a Loss + How To Watch

Shadow Mountain was not able to break out of their rough patch on Wednesday as the team picked up their fourth straight loss. They were a single set away from ending the streak, but they lost a 3-2 heartbreaker at the hands of the Goldwater Bulldogs. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Matadors of the 3-1 defeat they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in October of 2024.

Shadow Mountain wouldn't go down easily and took Goldwater into a fifth set but they suffered a heartbreaking three-point loss. The match finished with set scores of 25-23, 25-17, 20-25, 20-25, 15-12.

When it comes to explaining why Shadow Mountain lost, don't look at LILLIAN VARGAS. Despite the final result, she had 32 digs, 14 kills, and six aces. VARGAS has been hot recently, having posted 12 or more kills the last three times she's played. Another player making a difference was SOPHIA LOPEZ, who had 27 digs and two aces.

Goldwater's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Miley Zapata, who had 22 digs and two aces. Those 22 digs gave Zapata a new career-high. Finley Biber was another key player, getting five digs and five aces.

Shadow Mountain's loss dropped their record down to 9-14. As for Goldwater, their victory bumped their record up to 13-8.

The teams didn't have to wait long for a rematch: Shadow Mountain beat the Bulldogs by a score of 3-0 on Thursday.
