Kennedy Catholic is 8-2 against Mt. Rainier since April of 2018 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Tuesday. The Lancers will challenge the Rams at 4:00 p.m. Kennedy Catholic has given up an average of 10 runs per game this season, but Tuesday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.
Kennedy Catholic fell victim to Auburn Riverside and their airtight pitching crew on Wednesday. They came up short against the Ravens, falling 14-0. The defeat continues a trend for the Lancers in their meetings with the Ravens: they've now lost eight in a row.
Kennedy Catholic saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Megan Wintermute, who went 1-for-2 with one stolen base.
Mt. Rainier came out on top against Auburn on Friday thanks in part to the team's impressive six-run first inning. The Rams' pitcher stepped up to hand the Trojans a 10-0 shutout. Considering the Rams have won three contests by more than eight runs this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.
Kadence Avila Petitt was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, keeping things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out ten over six innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two hits in six consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going a perfect 2-for-2 with two runs and one stolen base.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Kendall Parker, who went 2-for-3 with one home run, three RBI, and one stolen base. Willow Stokes was another key player, going 1-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.
The victory made it two in a row for Mt. Rainier and bumps their season record up to 5-5. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered a grand total of 0 runs in those games. As for Kennedy Catholic, they now have a losing record of 8-9.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Tuesday as neither team is afraid to steal. Kennedy Catholic has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 2.8 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Mt. Rainier struggles in that department as they've been averaging 5.3 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
Kennedy Catholic suffered a grim 18-9 defeat to Mt. Rainier in their previous matchup on April 2nd. Can the Lancers avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
