Baseball Recap: George Wythe Comes Up Short

George Wythe had lost four straight at home, but on Saturday they dropped their record down to 4-11-1 to make it five. They lost 15-3 to the Giles Spartans. The Maroons were not able to repeat the success they had when they faced the Spartans earlier this season, when they won 4-3.

George Wythe saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Cade Bralley, who went 1-for-2 with one run.

As for Giles, their record is now 6-12-1. The high-scoring effort was just what they needed considering they were shut out in their previous match.

On Giles' side, Brady Thwaites made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out six batters over five innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off four hits. That's the most strikeouts Thwaites has posted since back in April. He was also big at the plate, getting on base in four of his five plate appearances with two RBI.

In other batting news, Josiah Schlueter and Miles Eppling did most of the damage at the plate: Schlueter went 2-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI, while Eppling went 2-for-3 with three RBI, one run, and one double. Schlueter has become a key player for Giles: the team is undefeated when he posts at least two runs, but 1-12-1 otherwise. Another player making a difference was Colton Moye, who went 1-for-4 with four RBI and one run.

As of now, neither George Wythe nor Giles have any future games scheduled.
