Basketball Recap: Tuesday's Victory Is Crest's Eighth in Last Nine Outings

With a playoff win on the line, Crest rose to the challenge on Tuesday. They walked away with a 73-62 victory over the North Buncombe Black Hawks. That result was just more of the same for these two, as the Chargers also won the last time the pair played back in March of 2015.

Lyrik Pettis was his usual excellent self, going 9-for-16 on his way to 31 points and five rebounds. His big performance that evening made it nine games in a row in which he has scored at least 15 points. Another player making a difference was D'Various Surratt, who went 6-for-12 en route to 16 points in addition to five boards and three steals.

Crest smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 16 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive boards in 14 consecutive matchups.

North Buncombe's loss came despite a true team effort with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Trent Clark, who went 7-for-14 to rack up 18 points and five steals. Clark has been hot for a while, having posted 17 or more points the last 32 times he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Matthew Ledford, who went 6-for-10 on his way to 17 points.

Crest is on a roll lately: they've won eight of their last nine games. That's provided a nice bump to their 20-3 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 72.3 points over those games. This is the second loss in a row for North Buncombe and nudges their season record down to 15-12.

Coming up, Crest will host Northwest Cabarrus at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Crest has given up an average of 46 points per game this season, so hopefully the team got some defensive drills in this week. North Buncombe does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
