Baseball Recap: Red Mountain Beats Desert Vista for Their Third Straight Win

Red Mountain proved they can win big on Friday (they won by ten) and on Saturday they proved they can win the close ones too. They skirted past the Desert Vista Thunder 3-1. For the Mountain Lions, this counts as revenge for the 4-2 win the Thunder walked away with the last time they faced one another back in February of 2024.

Maddox Loria tossed a big game, not allowing a single earned run over five innings pitched. What's more, he posted four strikeouts, the most he's had since back in April of 2024.

On the hitting side, Kale Thorson and Hagen Wright did most of the damage at the plate: Thorson scored two runs while going 3-for-4, while Wright went 1-for-3 with one home run and two RBI.

The victory was the third in a row for Red Mountain, bringing their record for this year to 3-1. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 0.7 runs on average over those games. As for Desert Vista, their defeat was their first of the season and also makes their record 3-1.

Looking ahead, Red Mountain will face off against Pinnacle at 3:45 p.m. on Wednesday. As for Desert Vista, they will square off against Chandler at 3:45 p.m. on Monday. Desert Vista's pitching crew has only allowed 3.8 runs per game this season, so Chandler's hitters will have their work cut out for them.
