Baseball Recap: Daleville Comes Up Short

Daleville had lost eight straight on the road, but on Monday they dropped down to 3-13 to make it nine. They fell just short of the Pike County Bulldogs by a score of 9-8. The Warhawks were not able to make up for their loss to the Bulldogs from their previous meeting back in April of 2024.

Joseph Ray made the most of his time in the batter's box despite the final result and went 2-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one double. The team also got some help courtesy of Javyair Brannen, who went 1-for-2 with one stolen base and two RBI.

As for Pike County, they moved to 4-13-1 with that victory, which also ended their five-game losing streak. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win they have posted since February 26th.

On Pike County's side, Chandler Jackson made a big impact no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, pitching one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. Jackson has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than two hits in five consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with two stolen bases, one run, and one double. That's the most stolen bases he has posted since back in March.

In other batting news, Mark Griffin was excellent, getting on base in all five of his plate appearances with three stolen bases and two runs. That's the most stolen bases he has posted since back in February. Another player making a difference was Blake English, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with one run and one RBI.

Coming up, Daleville is taking a road trip to challenge Ashford at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. The Warhawks' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Yellowjackets have averaged an impressive 7.2 runs per game this season.
