Preview: Mountain Vista Golden Eagles vs. Ponderosa Mustangs
Mountain Vista is 8-1 against Ponderosa since January of 2015, and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Friday. The Mountain Vista Golden Eagles will be playing at home against the Ponderosa Mustangs at 5:30 p.m. Mountain Vista has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last three games.
You can't lose the contest if you win every quarter, and that was precisely Mountain Vista's strategy against Heritage on Tuesday. Given that consistent dominance, it should come as no surprise that Mountain Vista blew Heritage out of the water with a 83-28 final score. The game was pretty much decided by the half, when the score had already reached 38-14.
Mountain Vista can attribute much of their success to Grace Roscoe, who dropped a double-double on 24 points and 14 rebounds, and Kennedy Spellman, who went 6 for 12 from beyond the arc en route to 36 points and 6 assists. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Spellman has scored all season. Arianna Akey was another key contributor, scoring four points along with four steals.
Meanwhile, Ponderosa's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Tuesday after their third straight defeat. They were dealt a 78-28 loss at the hands of Rock Canyon. Ponderosa was in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 43-13.
Mountain Vista's victory bumped their record up to 8-11. As for Ponderosa, their loss was their sixth straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 5-15.
Everything came up roses for Mountain Vista against Ponderosa in their previous meeting back in February of 2023 as the team secured a 76-31 victory. One of the biggest obstacles trying to stand in the way of that victory was Ponderosa's Kayli Spall, who scored 20 points. Now that she won't be playing on Friday, will it be that much easier for Mountain Vista to walk away with another win? There's only one way to find out.
