Etowah took a three-set defeat the last time they faced off against Cherokee, but this time they managed to keep it close and that made all the difference. The Eagles had just enough and edged out the Warriors 3-2 on Thursday. This was payback for the Eagles, who suffered a 3-0 loss the last time these two teams met.

Etowah wouldn't go down easily and took Cherokee into a fifth set where they got it done with a five-point win. The match finished with set scores of 25-18, 25-20, 20-25, 20-25, 15-10.

Among those leading the charge was Kate Holley, who had 15 digs and two assists.

Several Warriors players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Haley Mendoza, who had 17 digs and two aces. With that strong performance, Mendoza is now averaging an impressive 10.4 digs per game. Another player making a difference was Charleigh Young, who had four digs and two aces.

Etowah's victory bumped their record up to 13-6. As for Cherokee, they are on a five-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 4-19.

Etowah didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 2-1 defeat against Mt. Bethel Christian Academy on the 13th. As for Cherokee, they have also already played their next contest, a 3-0 loss against Marietta on the 16th.
