Softball Game Preview: Calabasas Coyotes vs. Louisville Royals

The Calabasas Coyotes will face off against the Louisville Royals at 3:30 p.m. on Thursday. Calabasas has given up an average of 11.5 runs per game this season, so hopefully the team got some pitching drills in this week.

Calabasas is headed into Thursday's match looking for a big change in momentum after dropping their fourth straight game on Thursday. They came up short against Grace, falling 15-4.

Meanwhile, Louisville owes their pitching crew a big pat on the back after their performance on Tuesday. They walked away with a 3-0 victory over Newbury Park.

Not much got past Kelsey Vitalis, who gave up just four hits and racked up eight Ks to keep Newbury Park off the board. Vitalis has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than one walk in six consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Lily Rodriguez was incredible, scoring a run and stealing Two bases. while going 3-for-3. That's the most hits she has posted since back in April of 2024.

Louisville pushed their record up to 3-5 with the win, which was their third straight at home. A key ingredient in that success has been their performance when it comes to hits: they averaged an imposing 9.67 hits in those games compared to only five in the others. As for Calabasas, their loss dropped their record down to 0-4.

Calabasas suffered a grim 13-1 defeat to Louisville in their previous meeting back in March of 2023. Can Calabasas avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
