Basketball Recap: Cherry Creek Finds Home Court Redemption Against Cherokee Trail

There's no place like home for Cherry Creek, who bounced back after a loss on the road last Wednesday. They blew past the Cherokee Trail Cougars 66-45 on Friday. That's more bragging rights for the Bruins, who also won the pair's last head-to-head.

Jeremiah Hammond was his usual excellent self, going 6 of 10 en route to 20 points. Tristan Robinson also deserves some recognition as he grabbed his first steal of the season.

Cherry Creek smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with ten offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive rebounds in ten consecutive matches.

Despite the loss, Cherokee Trail saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Jordan Mitchell posted 16 points. Another player making a difference was Vince Guthrie, who scored seven points and eight rebounds.

Cherry Creek's win was their first in the league, bumping their league record up to 1-3 and their overall record up to 6-10. As for Cherokee Trail, their defeat ended a three-game streak of away wins and brought them to 8-9.

Cherry Creek is taking a road trip to face off against Mullen at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Cherry Creek is facing Mullen at the right time seeing as Mullen is stuck on a five-game losing streak. As for Cherokee Trail, they will host Eaglecrest at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Eaglecrest knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with 55 points or more in their past 15 games -- so hopefully Cherokee Trail likes a good challenge.
