The Foothills Christian Knights will take on the Chula Vista Spartans in a tournament on Saturday. Foothills Christian's pitching crew has only allowed four runs per game this season, so Chula Vista's hitters will have their work cut out for them.
Foothills Christian had to skate by with only a one-run margin when they last took the field, which might have inspired the 11-run drubbing they dealt High Tech CV on Tuesday. Everything went Foothills Christian's way against High Tech CV as Foothills Christian made off with a 12-1 win. The Knights not only won on Tuesday, but they posted their biggest win since March 1, 2024.
Johannes Jansen Granillo made a splash while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run over four innings pitched. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in three consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, scoring two runs while going 2-for-3. What's more, he posted two RBI, the most he's had since back in April of 2024.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Jr Merino, who went a perfect 4-for-4 with three stolen bases, six RBI, and two runs. Those RBI marked the first that he brought in this season. Another player making a difference was Jack Morgan, who scored two runs and stole a base while getting on base in all four of his plate appearances.
Foothills Christian always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .528. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as High Tech CV only posted an OBP of .241.
Meanwhile, Chula Vista came up short against Mission Bay on Thursday and fell 6-3. The Spartans have struggled against the Buccaneers recently, as the game was their third consecutive lost meetings.
Chula Vista saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Julian Martinez, who went 1-for-2 with one RBI.
Chula Vista's loss dropped their record down to 1-3-1. As for Foothills Christian, the victory got them back to even at 2-2.
Foothills Christian's speedy runners might be the difference in Saturday's contest. Foothills Christian has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 4.5 stolen bases per game.
