Baseball Recap: West Bend West Comes Up Short

West Bend West lost against Grafton back in April, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Wednesday. The Spartans took a 4-1 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Black Hawks. The Spartans have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

West Bend West got a good showing from Maddex Welzien, who tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Welzien has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two hits in five consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Mason Micksch was cooking despite his team's loss, going 1-for-2 with three stolen bases and one run.

West Bend West's defeat dropped their record down to 11-8. As for Grafton, they have been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 14-7 record this season.

We've got plenty of inter-conference action coming up soon. West Bend West will take on rival Cedarburg at 4:45 p.m. on Friday. Meanwhile, Grafton is set to face off against their familiar foe Hartford at 5:00 p.m. on Friday.
