Basketball Recap: Maize takes loss despite strong performances from Alan Hanna and Davin Hinote

Basketball Recap: Maize Eagles vs. Andover Central Jaguars

The Maize Eagles lost against the Andover Central Jaguars back in March of 2023, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Tuesday. Maize took a 50-44 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Jaguars. Maize has not had much luck with the Jaguars recently, as the team's come up short the last two times they've met.

Davin Hinote and Alan Hanna certainly did their best on Tuesday to avoid the loss. Hinote scored ten points along with six assists and six rebounds, while Hanna scored 13 points along with two steals. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Hanna has scored all season. Another player making a difference was Charles Sharp, who scored six points along with two blocks.

It was another big night for Jayden Brown, who scored 18 points along with five rebounds for Andover Central. Brody DeGarmo was another key contributor, scoring seven points along with three steals.

Maize's defeat dropped their record down to 6-5. As for Andover Central, they pushed their record up to 5-6 with that win, which was their third straight at home.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Maize is on the road again on Friday and plays the Salthawks on January 26th. As for Andover Central, they will face off against the Hornets at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Valley Center will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Kansas Rankings (they are ranked 246th, while the Jaguars are ranked 91st).
