Softball Preview: Pottsville Crimson Tide vs. Panther Valley Panthers

The Pottsville Crimson Tide will take on the Panther Valley Panthers at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, these teams will really light up the scoreboard.

On Monday, Pottsville was able to grind out a solid victory over Mahanoy Area, taking the game 10-5. Considering the Crimson Tide's hitters had been struggling lately, the high-scoring outing was a much-needed turnaround.

Peyton Eckert made a big impact no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out ten batters over seven innings while giving up three earned (and two unearned) runs off five hits. Those ten strikeouts gave her a new career-high. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-4 with one home run.

In other batting news, Pottsville let Megan Yost and Aubrey Scanlan run wild. Yost went 2-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI, while Scanlan went 2-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI. That's the most RBI Yost has posted since back in April of 2024. Lana Cromyak was another key player, going 2-for-4 with two stolen bases, one run, and one RBI.

Meanwhile, Panther Valley never let their opponents score on Monday. They put the hurt on Notre Dame with a sharp 15-0 win. The Panthers might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won ten games by ten runs or more this season.

Paige Goida looked comfortable as she didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out eight over four innings pitched.

At the plate, Panther Valley got a massive performance out of Morgan O'Brien, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with three runs, one triple, and one stolen base. The team also got some help courtesy of Brooklynn Mika, who went 2-for-3 with five RBI and two doubles.

Panther Valley was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .417. They are a perfect 9-0 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.

Pottsville now has a winning record of 10-9. As for Panther Valley, they moved to 10-10 with that victory, which also ended their three-game losing streak.
