Basketball Recap: Edison Takes a Loss

Edison lost against Centennial back in December of 2024 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Monday. The Edison Tigers were dealt a 95-49 loss at the hands of the Centennial Golden Hawks. While losing is never fun, the Tigers can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 997th, while the Golden Hawks are ranked 194th).

It was another big night for Michael Gutierrez, who went 10 of 16 en route to 26 points and seven rebounds for Centennial. The matchup was Gutierrez's fourth in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Acen Zuniga, who went 5 of 8 on his way to 11 points along with eight rebounds and five steals.

Edison has traveled a rocky road recently having lost six of their last seven games, which put a noticeable dent in their 3-11 record this season. As for Centennial, the victory was the third in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 10-4.

Edison will venture away from home to take on Bakersfield at 7:00 p.m. on January 7th. As for Centennial, they will welcome Independence at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. One thing working in Centennial's favor is that they have posted at least 55 points in their last four contests.
