Basketball Game Preview: Canton C-Hawks vs. Vermillion Tanagers

Canton is 2-8 against Vermillion since March of 2016 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Monday. The Canton C-Hawks will head out to face off against the Vermillion Tanagers at 7:00 p.m.

Canton is headed in fresh off scoring the most points they have all season. They fell 78-69 to Hanson on Thursday. The C-Hawks' defeat continues a trend for the team, making it six in a row.

Meanwhile, Vermillion came tearing into Friday's contest with six straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 20.7 points), and they left with even more momentum. They came out on top against the Indians by a score of 52-42. Given the Tanagers' advantage in MaxPreps' basketball rankings in their respective home states (they are ranked 15th in South Dakota, while the Indians are ranked 95th in Nebraska), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Vermillion's victory was their eighth straight on the road dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 15-3. As for Canton, their loss dropped their record down to 2-17.

Canton didn't have too much breathing room in their match against Vermillion when the teams last played back in February of 2024, but they still walked away with a 74-70 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for Canton since the squad won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
