Soccer Game Preview: Arroyo vs. San Leandro

The Arroyo Dons will take on the San Leandro Pirates at 3:30 p.m. on Wednesday.

Last Thursday, Arroyo didn't have quite enough to beat Mt. Eden and fell 2-1. While losing is never fun, the Dons can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' California soccer rankings (they are ranked 478th, while the Monarchs are ranked 209th).

Meanwhile, San Leandro waltzed into their matchup on Thursday with two straight wins... but they left with three. They skirted past the Grizzlies 2-1. The score was all tied up 1-1 at the break, but the Pirates were the better team in the second half.

Kevin Angel Gonzalez and Diego Martinez scored both of San Leandro's goals, bringing their combined season tally to 12 goals.

Arroyo's defeat was their third straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 7-7-2. As for San Leandro, they now have a winning record of 6-5-3.

Everything went Arroyo's way against San Leandro in their previous matchup back in December of 2023, as Arroyo made off with a 3-0 win. Will Arroyo repeat their success, or does San Leandro have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
