Baseball Recap: Herriman Comes Up Short

Herriman fought the good fight in their extra-innings contest against Layton on Wednesday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Lancers by a score of 4-3. That's two games in a row now that the Mustangs have lost by just one run.

Mason Greeno was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: he pitched 5.2 innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits. He has been consistent: he hasn't given up more than two walks any time he's pitched this season.

At the plate, Herriman saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Cameron Pettitt, who went 1-for-3 with one double and one RBI.

This is the second loss in a row for Herriman and nudges their season record down to 6-16. Even worse, they were so close both times: the defeats came by an average of only one runs. As for Layton, they are on a roll lately: they've won 11 of their last 12 matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 16-5 record this season.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Herriman will take on Westlake at 3:30 p.m. on Monday. As for Layton, they will square off against Farmington at 3:30 p.m. on Monday.
