Softball Recap: Vasquez Wins Going Away Against Golden Valley

Vasquez lost a heartbreaker the last time they played Golden Valley, but it's fair to say they got their revenge given the result of Wednesday's contest. Everything went the Vasquez Mustangs' way against the Golden Valley Grizzlies on Wednesday as the Vasquez Mustangs made off with a 12-3 win. For the Mustangs, this counts as revenge for the 5-3 victory the Grizzlies walked away with the last time they faced one another back in March of 2024.

Madisyn Wharton made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she struck out seven batters over seven innings while giving up three earned runs off eight hits. Wharton was also solid in the batter's box, scoring a run and stealing two bases while getting on base in three of her four plate appearances.

In other batting news, Mariah Pulido and Kriztina Finley did most of the damage at the plate: Pulido went 2-for-3 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs, while Finley scored a run and stole a base while going 4-for-4. The dominant performance also gave Finley a new career-high in hits (four). Olivia Mayes was another key player, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 1-for-4.

Vasquez always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .514. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Golden Valley only posted an OBP of .375.

The win made it two in a row for Vasquez and bumps their season record up to a perfect 2-0. They've dominated over that stretch too, winning by an average of 15 runs. As for Golden Valley, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 2-2.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Vasquez will host Hesperia Christian at 3:15 p.m. on Friday. As for Golden Valley, they will look to defend their home field on Monday against Verdugo Hills at 3:15 p.m.
