Basketball Recap: Grace Academy Takes a Loss

After a string of seven wins, Grace Academy's good fortune finally ran out on Tuesday. They were just a bucket shy of victory and fell 54-53 to the Austin Royals HomeSchool Royals. Grace Academy was given a dose of their own medicine in this game as Austin Royals HomeSchool apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in January of 2024.

When it comes to explaining why Grace Academy lost, don't look at Reagan Johnson. Despite the final result, she dropped a double-double on 19 points and 17 rebounds. Johnson's evening made it three games in a row in which she has scored at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Allison Shell, who went 8 of 16 on her way to 20 points along with eight boards and four steals.

Even though they lost, Grace Academy smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 20 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least ten offensive boards in eight consecutive matchups.

Grace Academy's loss ended a four-game streak of away wins and brought them to 15-6. As for Austin Royals HomeSchool, their victory bumped their record up to 22-20.

Grace Academy has already played their next game, a 53-14 win against St. Mary's on the 30th. As for Austin Royals HomeSchool, they will challenge Legacy Ranch at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Austin Royals HomeSchool is facing Legacy Ranch at the right time seeing as Legacy Ranch is stuck on a three-game losing streak.
