Volleyball Recap: East Greenwich Comes Up Short in High-Profile Game with Bishop Hendricken

East Greenwich faced Bishop Hendricken in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Thursday. The Avengers took a 3-1 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Hawks. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Hawks this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 3-0 back in April.

East Greenwich started the match hot and won the first set, but they struggled down the stretch and lost the last three. The final score came out to 21-25, 25-20, 25-21, 25-15.

Aidan Huff paced East Greenwich's offense, picking up nine kills. Huff got some help from Rainen Paquet and his 25 assists. Luke Moio controlled things from the service line, finishing with three aces.

Santiago Harrington was nothing short of spectacular for Bishop Hendricken: he had 22 digs and one assist. That's the most digs Harrington has posted since back in May of 2024.

East Greenwich now has a losing record of 8-9. As for Bishop Hendricken, their win ended a five-game drought on the road and puts them at 9-9.

Coming up, East Greenwich will be playing at home against Coventry at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday. The Oakers will aim to continue their three-game streak of scoring more sets each match than the last. As for Bishop Hendricken, they will venture away from home to challenge Classical at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. The Purple will roll in looking for their sixth straight victory, something the Hawks surely won't give up without a fight.
