Basketball Recap: Sarasota Christian Comes Up Short

Sarasota Christian lost against Braden River back in November of 2024 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Thursday. The Sarasota Christian Blazers took a blow against the Braden River Pirates, falling 55-23.

Several Blazers players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Nikki Olupitan, who posted two points and ten rebounds. Olupitan is becoming a predictor of Sarasota Christian's success: when she posts at least eight boards the team is 4-1 (and 5-9 when she doesn't). Another player making a difference was Audrey Jackson, who put up two points and seven steals.

Even though they lost, Sarasota Christian smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 11 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least 11 offensive boards in three consecutive matches.

Kelis McGrady continued her habit of posting crazy stat lines for Braden River, dropping a double-double on 17 points and 15 rebounds. McGrady has been hot recently, having posted eight or more boards the last four times she's played. Kamiyah Mcgrady was another key player, putting up six points along with 11 rebounds and five assists.

Sarasota Christian now has a losing record at 9-10. As for Braden River, their victory was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 12-9.

The two teams are set to take part in some playoff action in their next matches. Sarasota Christian will take on Gulf Coast HEAT at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. Gulf Coast HEAT's defense has only allowed 27.8 points per game this season, so Sarasota Christian's offense will have their work cut out for them. As for Braden River, they will face off against Hillsborough at 7:00 p.m. on February 6th. Braden River has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last three games.
