Basketball Recap: Monument Academy Takes a Loss

Monument Academy was not able to break out of their rough patch on Monday as the team picked up their 12th straight loss dating back to last season. They had to suffer through a 65-23 loss at the hands of the Ascent Classical Academy Guardians.

Despite the defeat, Monument Academy saw an underclassman step up: freshman Matthew Smith posted 14 points.

Ascent Classical Academy's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Jack Colberg led the charge by putting up ten points along with six steals and five rebounds. With that strong performance, Colberg is now averaging an impressive 2.2 steals per game. Another player making a difference was Vann Rogers, who went 6 of 11 en route to 15 points and five steals.

Monument Academy's loss dropped their record down to 0-10. As for Ascent Classical Academy, their victory was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 4-8.

Monument Academy will face off against Calhan at 7:30 p.m. on February 4th. As for Ascent Classical Academy, they will head out to face off against Two Roads Charter School at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday.
