Baseball Game Preview: Petersburg Buffaloes vs. Sudan Hornets

The Petersburg Buffaloes will challenge the Sudan Hornets at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday. Petersburg has given up an average of 11.3 runs per game this season, so hopefully the team got some pitching drills in this week.

Tuesday just wasn't the day for Petersburg's offense. They came up short against Sudan on Tuesday, falling 18-0. The Buffaloes just can't catch a break and have now endured three defeats in a row.

For Sudan's part, Caleb Groetken was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he struck out six batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit (and only one walk). That's the most strikeouts Groetken has posted since back in March of 2024. He was also stellar in the batter's box, firing off two home runs, six RBI, and three runs while going 3-for-3.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Kincaid Boehning, who went 1-for-2 with one home run, four RBI, and two runs. Another player making a difference was Aybran Granados, who scored two runs and stole Two bases. while getting on base in all three of his plate appearances.

Sudan always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .750. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Petersburg only posted an OBP of .222.

Sudan's win was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 7-3. They've dominated over that stretch too, winning by an average of 18.7 runs. As for Petersburg, their loss dropped their record down to 2-4.

Saturday's matchup might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Petersburg has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .500. However, it's not like Sudan struggles in that department as they've averaged .596. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
