Baseball Recap: Black River Comes Up Short

Black River had lost five straight on the road dating back to last season, but on Tuesday they dropped their record down to 0-5 to make it six. They lost 9-0 to the Galesburg-Augusta Rams. The match marked the first time this season in which the Rats were not able to get on the board.

As for Galesburg-Augusta, they now have a winning record of 6-5. They haven't had any issues with Black River recently, as the game was their fourth consecutive victory against them.

For Galesburg-Augusta's part, Alex Krugh made a splash while hitting and pitching. He didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out 12 over five innings pitched. Krugh has been consistent: he hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in five consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one double. That stolen base was his first of the season.

In other batting news, Jaden Fawcett was excellent, going 2-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one double. That stolen base marked the first that he has snagged this season. Another player making a difference was Ashton Matrau, who got on base in all four of his plate appearances with two runs.

The teams didn't have to wait long for a rematch: Galesburg-Augusta beat Black River by a score of 10-0 later that day.
