Sanford is 2-7 against Pagosa Springs since January of 2015 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Friday. The Sanford Mustangs will head out on the road to face off against the Pagosa Springs Pirates at 5:30 p.m. Each of these teams will be fighting to keep a win streak alive as Sanford comes in on 13 and Pagosa Springs on ten.
Last Friday, everything went Sanford's way against Del Norte as Sanford made off with a 61-38 win. The Mustangs have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won 13 games by 23 points or more this season.

Sanford's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Shasta Bond, who posted 17 points and seven rebounds. Bond has been hot recently, having also posted two or more steals the last three times she's played. Brooklynn Reynolds was another key player, putting up 11 points along with five assists and three steals.
Sanford was working as a unit and finished the game with 12 assists. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Del Norte only racked up six assists.
Meanwhile, a well-balanced attack led Pagosa Springs over Montezuma-Cortez in every quarter on their way to victory on Saturday. Given that consistent dominance, it should come as no surprise that Pagosa Springs blew Montezuma-Cortez out of the water with a 66-16 final score. That 50 point margin sets a new team best for the Pirates this season.
Pagosa Springs' win came from a few key players Sanford will need to keep an eye on. One of the most notable was Elizabeth Currier, who put up 19 points and eight boards. She continues to improve, besting her previous point total in each of the last three games she's played. Another player making a difference was Kaila Limebrook, who dropped a double-double with 15 points and 13 rebounds.
Pagosa Springs' victory was their fifth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 15-4. Those victories came thanks in part to their defensive effort, having only surrendered 23.6 points over those games. As for Sanford, their record is now 17-2.
Rebounding is likely to be a big factor in this contest: Sanford has been crashing the boards this season, having averaged 28.1 boards per game. However, it's not like Pagosa Springs struggles in that department as they've been averaging 30.6 rebounds. With both teams battling to corral missed shots, we'll see if one team can grab an edge.
Sanford came up short against Pagosa Springs in their previous matchup back in January of 2024, falling 38-27. Can Sanford avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
