Basketball Recap: Monroe County Comes Up Short

While it was all tied up 24-24 at halftime, Monroe County was not quite Hillcrest's equal in the second half on Friday. They fell 52-44 to the Hillcrest Jaguars. The Tigers' loss continues a trend for the squad, making it five in a row.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Hillcrest to victory, but perhaps none more so than Jayla Williams, who posted 18 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Sky?La Mixon, who put up 12 points.

Monroe County's defeat dropped their record down to 3-14. As for Hillcrest, the victory (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 7-8.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Monroe County will square off against Flomaton at 5:30 p.m. on Monday. Monroe County is facing Flomaton at the right time seeing as Flomaton is stuck on a four-game losing streak. As for Hillcrest, a feisty cat fight is on tap when the Hillcrest Jaguars duke it out with the T.R. Miller Tigers at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. T.R. Miller's defense has only allowed 21.1 points per game this season, so Hillcrest's offense will have their work cut out for them.
