Basketball Recap: Divine Savior Academy Takes a Loss

Divine Savior Academy lost against Immaculata-La Salle back in December of 2024 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Thursday. The Divine Savior Academy Sharks were outmatched by the Immaculata-La Salle Royal Lions and fell 55-28. While losing is never fun, the Sharks can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Florida basketball rankings (they are ranked 517th, while the Royal Lions are ranked 241st).

Despite the loss, Divine Savior Academy saw an underclassman step up: freshman Claudia Cardenas went 5 for 9 on her way to 12 points and five rebounds. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Cardenas has scored all season.

Even though they lost, Divine Savior Academy smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 13 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least 13 offensive boards in three consecutive matchups.

Immaculata-La Salle found their leader in sophomore Alexandra Gonzalez Casar, who dropped a double-double on 15 points and 12 boards. Gonzalez Casar's evening made it seven games in a row in which she has scored at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Peilin Aguilar-Hou, who went 5 of 9 en route to 12 points and seven assists.

Divine Savior Academy has been struggling recently as they've lost three of their last four games, which put a noticeable dent in their 5-9 record this season. As for Immaculata-La Salle, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 16-4.

The two teams are set to take part in some playoff action in their next matches. Divine Savior Academy will face off against Scheck Hillel Community School at 7:00 p.m. on February 6th. Divine Savior Academy is facing Scheck Hillel Community School at the right time seeing as Scheck Hillel Community School is stuck on a five-game losing streak. Immaculata-La Salle has already played their next contest (against Edison), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing.
