Baseball Recap: Leechburg Has No Trouble Against Sewickley Academy

Leechburg lost a heartbreaker the last time they played Sewickley Academy, but it's fair to say they got their revenge given the result of Thursday's contest. Everything went the Leechburg Blue Devils' way against Sewickley Academy on Thursday as the Leechburg Blue Devils made off with an 11-1 victory. For the Blue Devils, this counts as revenge for the 5-3 win Sewickley Academy walked away with the last time they faced one another back in April of 2022.

Chase Henry made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he pitched one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. Henry was also stellar in the batter's box, scoring three runs and stealing a base while going 3-for-4. The dominant performance also gave him a new career-high in doubles (two).

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Jaxon Vargo, who scored a run and stole a base while going 1-for-2. What's more, he posted two RBI, the most he's had since back in April of 2024. Dylan Whitlinger was another key player, scoring two runs while going 1-for-3.

Leechburg was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .407. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Sewickley Academy only posted a batting average of .235.

The victory got Leechburg back to even at 1-1. As for Sewickley Academy, their defeat dropped their record down to 0-2.

Coming up, Leechburg will challenge Serra Catholic at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Sewickley Academy will have a little extra prep time after the loss as they won't be playing again for a while. They'll take on Bishop Canevin at 4:00 p.m. on March 24th.
