Basketball Recap: Northfield Snaps Five-Game Streak of Wins at Home

On Saturday, the Northfield Nighthawks were within striking distance but couldn't close the gap as they fell 61-56 to the Cherokee Trail Cougars.

When it comes to explaining why Northfield lost, don't look at Judah Michael. Despite the final result, he posted 23 points in addition to seven steals and five rebounds. The match was Michael's third in a row with at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Gyasi Hawthorne, who put up ten points and five boards.

Cherokee Trail was led to victory by Jordan Mitchell and Jake Scott. Mitchell went 6 for 13 en route to 15 points and six assists, while Scott went 5 of 7 on his way to 16 points. Jack Berry was another key player, putting up nine points.

Northfield's loss ended a five-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 8-4. As for Cherokee Trail, they are on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four contests, which provided a nice bump to their 7-6 record this season.

Northfield wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next game, a 55-52 win against Vista PEAK Prep on the 22nd. Cherokee Trail has also already played their next match, a 49-38 defeat against Arapahoe on the 22nd.
