Winning is just a little bit easier when you outrebound your opponent 16 to 5 on the offensive boards, a fact the Holy Trinity Episcopal Academy Tigers proved on Thursday. They walked away with a 59-47 win over John Carroll Catholic. Given Holy Trinity Episcopal Academy's advantage in MaxPreps' Florida basketball rankings (they are ranked 41st, while John Carroll Catholic is ranked 420th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Holy Trinity Episcopal Academy had a senior duo take command as Elijah Reynolds scored 22 points along with three steals and Wyatt Chanda dropped a double-double on 12 points and 21 rebounds. Chanda is on a roll when it comes to rebounds, as he's now pulled down eight or more in the last 13 games he's played. Martay Barnes was another key contributor, scoring nine points along with five rebounds and three steals.
Despite the loss, John Carroll Catholic still got an impressive performance from Caden Johnson, who scored 14 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Collin Jefferson, who scored 13 points.
Holy Trinity Episcopal Academy pushed their record up to 14-3 with that victory, which was their 12th straight at home. Those victories were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 70.4 points per game. As for John Carroll Catholic, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 7-11.
Holy Trinity Episcopal Academy will square off against Dr. Phillips at 5:15 p.m. on Saturday. John Carroll Catholic won't have much time to rest: their next contest is against Westwood at 7:00 p.m. on January 19th. Westwood is coming into the matchup on a three-game losing streak.
