Avon Grove has gone 8-1 against Great Valley recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Monday. Avon Grove will look to defend their home field against Great Valley at 3:45 p.m. Both come into the contest bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
Avon Grove took a loss when they played away from home on Wednesday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Thursday. They came out on top against Owen J. Roberts by a score of 7-4.
Devin Rinker tossed a big game, pitching five innings while giving up three earned runs off four hits.
On the hitting side, Logan Nelson was excellent, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 3-for-4. That's the most hits he has posted since back in April of 2024. Andrew Simeone was another key player, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 1-for-3.
While Great Valley didn't have the best season last year (they finished 9-11), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past. They were the clear victors by an 11-1 margin over Kennett on Friday. The Patriots have beaten the Blue Demons the last three times they've met, but they better watch out: this was the closest the Blue Demons has come to flipping the script.
Ty Callahan was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he struck out ten batters over 3.2 innings while giving up just one earned run off one hit. Callahan was also solid in the batter's box, scoring two runs while going 2-for-3.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Alex Bartlett, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with four RBI, two runs, and two doubles. Another player making a difference was Brady Hounsell, who scored two runs while going 2-for-3.
Great Valley always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .516. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Kennett only posted an OBP of .375.
Avon Grove's win was their fourth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 2-1. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.8 runs on average over those games. As for Great Valley, their win bumped their record up to 4-1.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Monday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Avon Grove has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 7.7 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Great Valley struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 8 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
Avon Grove took their victory against Great Valley in their previous meeting back in April of 2024 by a conclusive 9-1. Will Avon Grove repeat their success, or does Great Valley has a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
