Baseball Recap: Butler Turns Things Around After Road Loss

There's no place like home for Butler, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Thursday. They blew past the Rocky River Ravens 12-0 on Friday. The result was nothing new for the Bulldogs, who have now won five contests by nine runs or more so far this season.

Grayson DeBerry made a splash no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, tossing one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. Those zero hits allowed gave him a new career-low. He was also solid in the batter's box, scoring two runs and stealing a base while getting on base in all three of his plate appearances. Butler is 3-1 when DeBerry posts two or more runs, but 3-7 otherwise.

In other pitching news, Chase Decurtis looked comfortable as he pitched one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. He is becoming a predictor of Butler's success: when he allows at most one hit the team is 2-1 (and 4-7 when he doesn't).

Back at the plate, Tim Henderson was incredible, scoring two runs and stealing four bases while going 2-for-3. Those four stolen bases gave him a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Collin Keith, who scored a run and stole two bases while going 1-for-1.

Butler always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .517. That was just more of the same: they've now posted an OBP of .512 or higher in three consecutive matches.

Butler's win ended a three-game drought at home and bumped them up to 6-8. As for Rocky River, their loss was their fifth straight on the road dating back to last season, which dropped their record down to 0-7.

Butler and Rocky River could both be facing uphill battles in their next games considering their disadvantage in the MaxPreps North Carolina Rankings. Butler will face off against Charlotte Catholic at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday down 232 places (255 vs. 23). Meanwhile, Rocky River (ranked 451st) will meet Providence (ranked fourth) at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
