Baseball Recap: Heyworth Gets the Win

Heyworth won the last time they faced Peoria Christian and things went their way on Thursday too. The Hornets came out on top against the Chargers by a score of 5-2. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Hornets.

Braydon Laesch spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered just two earned runs on three hits and racked up 12 Ks. He also tossed a walk, which is notable because Heyworth is 3-1 when he allows at most two walks, but 6-10-2 otherwise.

On the hitting side, Caleb Zellers was excellent, going 1-for-3 with one home run and two RBI. Those two RBI gave him a new career-high. Boston Katz also deserves some recognition as he hit his first triple of the season.

Heyworth's win bumped their record up to 9-11-2. As for Peoria Christian, they now have a losing record of 10-11.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Heyworth will challenge Bloomington Central Catholic at 4:30 p.m. on Friday. As for Peoria Christian, they will face off against Illini Bluffs at 4:30 p.m. on Friday. The Chargers are facing the Tigers at the right time seeing as the Tigers are stuck on a three-game losing streak.
