Softball Game Preview: Weston Trojans vs. New Fairfield Rebels

The Weston Trojans will venture away from home to take on the New Fairfield Rebels at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. Weston has given up an average of 15.8 runs per game this season, but Monday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.

Weston managed to slip by Greenwich the last time these teams faced off, but didn't have those same answers this time around. The Trojans lost 25-3 to the Cardinals on Saturday. The game marked the Trojans' lowest-scoring match so far this season.

Ashley McCain was cooking despite her team's loss, going 2-for-4 with two stolen bases and one RBI. She is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as she's now snagged at least one in each of the last three games she's played.

Meanwhile, New Fairfield came up short against New Milford on Thursday, falling 11-1. The Rebels have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

New Fairfield saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Gianna Garofola, who went 1-for-3 with one double and one RBI.

New Fairfield now has a losing record of 2-3. As for Weston, their loss dropped their record down to 1-4.

Weston's speedy runners might be the difference in Monday's contest. The Trojans have been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 3.4 stolen bases per game. It's a different story for New Fairfield, though, as they've been averaging only 0.8 stolen bases. Will they be able to secure the bases, or will Weston continue to outrun the ball?

Weston might still be hurting after the 12-0 defeat they got from New Fairfield in their previous matchup back in April of 2024. Can the Trojans avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
