Baseball Recap: Make It Five in a Row for St. Louis Homeschool P

St. Louis HomeSchool P barely beat Chaminade the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. St. Louis HomeSchool P was the clear victor by a 13-5 margin over Chaminade on Saturday. The game marked the Patriots' most dominant win of the season so far.

Haverly Cox made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he struck out six batters over three innings while giving up just two earned (and two unearned) runs off two hits. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than two hits in three consecutive appearances. He was also stellar in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with two triples and three RBI. Those two triples gave him a new career-high.

In other batting news, Vinny Tornatore was a standout: he scored three runs and stole two bases while getting on base in four of his five plate appearances. He has become a key player for St. Louis HomeSchool P: the team is undefeated when he posts at least two runs, but 3-4 otherwise. Another player making a difference was Ben Janssen, who went 3-for-5 with four RBI, one stolen base, and one run.

The victory (which was St. Louis HomeSchool P's fifth in a row) raised their record to 7-4. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.6 runs over those games. As for Chaminade, they are on an eight-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-4.

The teams didn't have to wait long for a rematch: St. Louis HomeSchool P beat Chaminade by a score of 8-6 later that day.
