Softball Recap: Gillespie Has No Trouble Against Pana

While Gillespie put up plenty of runs on Tuesday, the same can't be said for Pana. The Miners put the hurt on the Panthers with a sharp 12-0 victory. The Miners have beaten the Panthers the last five times they've met, but they better watch out: this was the closest the Panthers has come to flipping the script.

Sadie Sholtis was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she didn't allow a single earned run while striking out six over five innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in seven consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, scoring a run while getting on base in three of her four plate appearances.

In other batting news, Ava Parish was a standout: she went a perfect 4-for-4 with two runs, one triple, and two RBI. Those four hits gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Delaney Taylor, who went 1-for-3 with one home run and two RBI.

Gillespie was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .407. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Pana only posted a batting average of .158.

Gillespie's record now sits at 9-5. As for Pana, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost six of their last seven games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 4-8 record this season.

Gillespie will challenge Dupo at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday. The Miners' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Tigers have averaged an impressive 6.9 runs per game this season. As for Pana, they will face off against Taylorville at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday.
