Basketball Recap: West Mecklenburg Hawks vs. Harding University Rams
West Mecklenburg was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their 16th straight loss dating back to last season. They took a 65-49 bruising from the Harding University Rams. The Hawks were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Rams apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in February of 2024.
Harding University found their leader in freshman Kaharri Coleman, who went 10 for 21 on his way to 29 points in addition to seven boards and seven steals. Coleman is on a roll when it comes to steals, as he's now grabbed two or more in the last seven games he's played. Another player making a difference was Lonnie Walker, who posted 12 points along with seven rebounds and four steals.
West Mecklenburg's loss dropped their record down to 0-15. As for Harding University, with the victory, they broke their five-game losing streak and moved their record to 5-12.
West Mecklenburg and Harding University could both be facing uphill battles in their next games considering their disadvantage in the MaxPreps North Carolina Rankings. West Mecklenburg (ranked 576th) will meet Rocky River (ranked 231st) at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Similarly, Harding University will challenge Hopewell at 7:30 p.m. on January 24th down 257 places (315 vs. 58).
