The Cheyenne Desert Shields will head out on the road to face off against the Mojave Rattlers at 3:30 p.m. on Monday. Cheyenne knows how to get runs on the board -- the squad has finished with ten runs or more in their past three games -- so hopefully Mojave likes a good challenge.
Cheyenne came out on top against Valley on Thursday thanks in part to the team's impressive 12-run first inning. The Desert Shields put the hurt on the Vikings with a sharp 15-0 win. The Desert Shields haven't had any issues with the Vikings recently, as the game was their sixth consecutive victory against them.

Jonathan Kelley and Raymundo Chevalier were major factors no matter where they played. On the mound, Kelley tossed one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. Meanwhile, Chevalier pitched one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up a single hit in four consecutive appearances. At bat, Kelley went 1-for-2 with three stolen bases, three runs, and two RBI, while Chevalier went a perfect 3-for-3 with three runs, four RBI, and one triple. Those three runs gave Kelley a new career-high.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Connor Steiner, who went a perfect 1-for-1 with one home run, two runs, and one stolen base. What's more, he posted two RBI, the most he's had since back in March. David Altamirano was another key player, going 1-for-2 with one stolen base and two RBI.
Cheyenne was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .529. That's the best batting average they've posted all season.
Meanwhile, Mojave lost 18-9 to Cimarron-Memorial on Thursday. The Rattlers have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Daniel Roman made the most of his time in the batter's box despite the final result and went a perfect 3-for-3 with three stolen bases, three RBI, and two runs. Mojave is 4-1 when Roman posts two or more runs, but 3-5-1 otherwise. The team also got some help courtesy of Elijah Agee, who got on base in all four of his plate appearances with two stolen bases, one run, and one RBI.
Cheyenne's record now sits at 16-5. As for Mojave, their defeat dropped their record down to 7-6-1.
Monday's contest will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Cheyenne hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .331. However, it's not like Mojave struggles in that department as they've averaged .361. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Cheyenne got the 'W' in their previous matchup back in March of 2023 against Mojave by a conclusive 11-2 score. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Desert Shields since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
